| Back from the new brain doc with a three month prescription. He assured me that it was ok to call if I loose a prescription before filling it.
Also, Hopkins tore down the Royal Farms and, I think, Ivy Hall on 33rd Street. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I bought a blender tonight. Floor model at a housewares store. Decent Cuisinart with a dial control and numbers instead of "crush", "puree" and the like.
I broke it on first test, before putting food in. Maybe I shouldn't have fumbled and pressed the ice crush button instead of off, but still the threads on the bolt holding the blades shouldn't have sheared. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| The issue with not taking Wellbutrin is that I don't comprehend the negative effects until I take it again. My place is a disaster, I made some negative statements around R (about me, not her) that I wish I didn't. I got too deep into a minor project at work at the expense of bigger things.
On the good side I actually did go out with R and she had a good time. The minor project will eventually feed into a bigger project. I know how much of a disaster my place is.
J gave me some of her remaining Wellbutrin SR, she uses the new version now. The doctor gives me my own new prescription tomorrow.
Cleanup has begun around here. There are two basic types of problems, recycling and storage. I feel bad about it but I'm going to throw the recycling into the regular trash. The system in Baltimore is awkward so paper has been sitting around here for months not getting out to the curb. I could drive it to the transfer station but I need to get it out now. (I'm still working on justifying it to myself.)
To solve the storage problem I've been trying to install shelves, but the wall anchors haven't been holding. The one I've been working with might be an original plaster wall, which would make it the only one in this part if the house, and the anchors are for drywall.
The Rude Mechanicals' Hamlet is Saturday at Area 405 in Baltimore. The reviews are great. Everyone should go. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I had dinner with S Tuesday. It's something we kept scheduling and things kept not happening. She lives in Atlanta, works for an airline (and travels for them) but weather, job schedules, and other such things came up. It's good to see instead of just talk to her.
Yom Kippur starts tonight. R asked if I wanted to go to services with her. I wouldn't be going if she hadn't asked.
Dr B is back from Houston and came in for a quick update.
In a nerdy burst of excitement, I found a free possibly legal copy of the ISO 3166-2 list. It contains the 'subnational entities' of all countries (states, provinces, French regions, English counties, etc). This will help with catagorizing items in the Newspaper Project.
There's a place near work that processes black and white infrared film. Playa del Fuego next month would make a good location to shoot some.
Yom Kippur begins in a few hours.
Too distracted to put in more right now. | comments: Leave a comment |
| The trip here was uneventful. The car is good, although 80 in this car feels like 60 in my old one. I understand how people can drive unreasonably fast now.
As usual my laptop is having trouble dialing in so I'll be using my parents PC. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I'm visiting my parents for Rosh Hashanna today. It will be good to get away and clear my head for a few days, even though I'll be in New Jersey. There's nothing wrong with the place, there's just nothing to do. My family will get to ooh and ahh over the car. I'll get to explain to my future sister-in-law why leather yarmulke's are a bad idea for their wedding (on me it will emphasize the bald spot, for my dad and grandfather they won't stay on, and they're uncomfortable).
The laptop is charging better than before so I can take it along. The digital camera's charger is missing but the camcorder's is with it.
In other news I've become interested in somebody. I'm not sure if it is going towards friendship or relationship but I'd like the latter. I am finding that I still react like I did around A, which gets in the way. I also don't know if she's open to anybody right now. The best advice I've gotten is to ask her. I hesitate because in the past I've always been told no. It's tough to get around experience. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| I didn't sum up all of last weekend. The laptop wasn't the biggest event.
Holly and her husband had a birthday party/cabaret and fire spinning friday night. It was fun and the conversations were good. Unfortunately they announced that they're moving out of town this week.
Saturday night I took photos at Fuego's of her, vees, and Suzy spinning in an attempt to get action shots. With 3200 speed film and the aperture at f/1.9 the shutter speed could go down to 1/500 and 1/1000 seconds with the light from the fires. The challenges were getting enough light on the people, focus, and the reduced light around Suzy. She spins fast enough to dim the flames. The film is out for developing. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Plumbers are at the house today. They arrived before the scheduled 8:30, which is fine. Unfortunately everyone else in the house wakes up later than that and both of the other apartments have to be entered.
They'll be there all day. JC is nervous because she's leaving at 3 and no one will be there to watch them. I appreciate that nervousness but she assumes everyone in the world is up to no good. These guys are licensed, bonded, come from an established local company and we live on TV Hill. The house is perfect for channel 45's travel as little as possible newscasts. It isn't worth the trouble for them to take anything.
Also this morning mouse scurried from under the bathroom sink to the mini ironing board next to the tub and probably to the hallway. There has been an ongoing problem with them at night but this is the first one coming out during the day.
Until now the plan was to block things up, let cats wander the apartment, and scare them when they get too close. Now they're either too bold or there are too many of them. I may have to call an exterminator. I don't like killing critters, especially mammals. I don't approve of glue traps. I even try to guide flies outside. Indoors, in addition to droppings, eaten food, and possible sickness, I discovered that I get territorial.
Update: The plumber called asking about replacing the sinks' vertical line. Like the other pipes it's galvanized steel but in theory they don't rust much because water doesn't pool in them and replacement would mean opening up the kitchen wall. I told them not to. Also, the tub went faster than expected so they may be done early. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| My Powerbook is working again.
For several months my laptop's power adapter has been breaking near the strain relief. Apparently this is a known design flaw and this model isn't made anymore. Usually wiggling the cord would make it work but late last week it went from losing connection to shorting and not supplying any power at all. Thinking that it would be a simple repair I cut the wire around the break and planned on soldering it together again. The wires are stranded and one of them lost too much to work with, so I cut closer to the connector.
I love Apple, but sometimes they're a serious pain. After I pulled out the one good wire trying to strip it I started to cut into the molded connector. The worst case should have been having to connect directly to the existing or a new plug. There were extra wires inside, most power adapters have two wires but this one had four.

| This morning before work was spent taking apart my Powerbook's power adapter. For a few weeks it has occasionally stopped supplying power. The fix was to move the wire around until things inside made contact again. Last night that didn't work.
Neither Baynesville Electronics or Radio Shack have the connector, so the existing one is the only thing available. Unfortunately it's encased in plastic which had to be cut apart. One of the wires turns out to be embedded in that plastic and got sliced. I need to completely dismantle it to solder a new one on. I'll find a way to make the whole thing look good when I'm done. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| | A plumber came by to do an estimate on new waste pipes for one of the upstairs apartments. I had been misidentifying the kitchen waste pipe as one from the bathroom, meaning they'll have to take down a lot more ceiling than I thought. It's also more expensive than I expected, even when he lowered the price, and it doesn't include a new ceiling. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Just a reminder about the pot luck dinner & movie(s) at my place tonight. Write or call me if you need directions, Mapquest doesn't have the easiest set from Columbia and points west.
Does anyone have a white sheet I can borrow? Someone is bringing one that's 3x3 but it would be nice to get the image larger. | comments: Leave a comment |

Guy at light: <honk> Me: Roll window down Guy: "Is that the new Subaru?" Me: "Yes" Guy: Looks front to back. "It's a good looking car." Me: "Thanks" Light changes

| | I brought my new car to work today for the first time. I did not park in the lot. Even though I'm concerned about parking on the street (although I did get a good spot), the hiddenness and broken glass of the parking lot are worse. One bad note, I scratched the bumper getting out of the garage and the black undercoat is visible. I'll get some touch up paint and ask someone with steady hands to put it on. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Any evening that starts out with "Put this on, it's fire proof" is going to be good.
Tonight I learned MIG welding. I practiced a bit on scrap metal, then Jason welded my exhaust system back together. Aftwards we wandered into Home Depot where I got carpet remnants (including outdoor stuff for the movie night) at a high discount. | comments: Leave a comment |
| You are a RAVENCLAW!
As a Ravenclaw and as an NTP, you are intellectual, independent, and value excellence in yourself and others. You are naturally curious, and can usually see many sides to the same argument or issue. You are driven to acquire knowledge and set very high standards for yourself and others. You enjoy being challenged, and can accept constructive criticism without taking it personally. You are probably at least somewhat unconventional, and will not usually follow authority for its own sake; instead, you will consider the issue at hand and make a decision for yourself.

| I had dinner with Robin and Ben last night. Good dinner at on the patio of a greek restaurant outside Catonsville. (Rho, there is good food by you!) Admiration of the Mandarin edition of Robin's book. Conversation till 12:30.
And they understand why Visual Basic for Applications (the macro language I've been programming Excel in) being closely related to Altair and TRS-80 Basic is a wonderous, useful, and simultaneously scary (to Cthulhuloid proportions) thing. | comments: Leave a comment |
